Y8 Natural History Museum Trip
BackYear 8 has a fantastic day out at the Natural History museum taking a journey through the human body. We started with the structure of the cell, identifying where the DNA is stored. This progressed into conception, and the journey the gametes take within the body. The students identified how the body changes through pregnancy and were very interested in how the developing baby receives nutrients from the mother without direct blood contact. We noted how tendons and ligaments work with the muscles to move the skeleton and identified the key characteristics different joints need depending on their role in the body. Next up was the nervous system, after lining them up to act out a synapse (much to the general public’s confusion) we moved onto hormones and how our body is regulated. Most of them managed to survive an interactive game controlling their avatars temperature using sweat and water…Overall a very successful and enjoyable day.
