Year 4: The Dolphin Dash

In this project, children work in groups to create a create a healthy living campaign, organising a fitness event for local schools and delivering a bespoke ‘warm-up’ based on their understanding of how our bodies work!

They explore muscle groups, different types of workouts and the mathematics of aerobic exercise, as well as some of the key literacy and IT skills that are needed to put together an informational leaflet and to send a formal email of invitation. Lunchtime running clubm visiting speakers and specialist workshops help to bring the project alive and demonstrate how these skills can be used in the 'real world' of work, before they are all brought together for their final event.

Throughout the project, children are challenged to show empathy through discussions about what constitutes healthy living and the impact of exercise, sleep and diet on our mental health. This project develops their interpersonal, time-management and presentation skills – amongst many others!
