Year 3: Theatre Programming
In this project, children work individually and in small groups to produce the programme notes for their own school play, uncovering and communicating the historical, social or cultural background of their story for the benefit of the audience.
Last year, students explored the history and science of chocolate production in preparation for their performance of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, looking at costings and set-design, producing a Roald Dahl biography, and even writing parts of the script itself. Outside of the classroom, they had the opportunity to visit the Roald Dahl Museum, follow a Quentin Blake trail around the village of Great Missenden to Dahl's grave, and spend some time at school designing, promoting and creating the own chocolate bars!
During this project, our children practised and developed a number of skills: working independently to uncover new information; challenging themselves to produce a clear and professional-looking final product; working sensitively and helpfully with their classmates.
The final results were a real testament to their hard work, enthusiasm and imagination - take a look below at an example!
