Y5 Boulogne Day

As year 5 were unable to make their usual autumn half term trip to Boulogne this year, Madame Moore decided to bring France to Dolphin.  Year 5 came in early at 7.30am to enjoy a real French 'petit déjeuner' complete with croissants and pain au chocolat.  Then instead of going to la boulangerie they made their own 'petits pains' and used their knowledge of French numbers to take part in a skittles competition at 'le bowling'. They also made their own biscuits inspired by a simple recipe from 'la biscuiterie d'Hardelot'. Then with the smell of freshly baked bread pervading the hall the Year 5s proceeded to buy their French lunch at the 'marché' - jambon, fromage, chips, yaourt, pomme , orange and banane were all to be heard as they asked politely for their wares and paid with imitation euros.  Some of the girls even found time to deliver a 'pique-nique' to the Headmaster. In the afternoon in lieu of their pilgrimage to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission Cemetry just outside Boulogne and following on from their war memorial trail earlier in the month, the children prepared to lead the Remembrance Service to be held after half term.  After all that hard work they enjoyed some well-earned 'crêpes' before settling down to watch a movie - in French, of course, but with English subtitles.  It was a very happy, but tired group of children who were the last to leave the site on that Friday to start their half term holiday.
