Year Four have been studying the sun, moon and planets. We have created our own solar systems and were ready to explore space at the Winchester Science Museum.

There were lots of hands-on exhibits about life in space as an astronaut as well as giant 3D simulations of each of the planets. Did you know they can't hear you scream in space as there is no air to vibrate and carry the sound waves. We explored light and sound waves as well as how mirrors are used in periscopes.

The museum staff led a workshop to explore the material best suited to screen the James Webb Space Telescope from solar radiation as well as using lasers to reflect light.

An exciting time was finished off with a visit to the Planetarium to learn the position of constellations and the order of the planets in our solar system. Complete with a journey through the asteroid belt and finally down a black hole.

Hopefully the trip will be inspired our children to become engineers and astronauts of the future to help humanity reach other planets.  To boldly go!
