Dolphin School Debuts a New Children's Opera Based on Orwell's Animal Farm

 

Dolphin School were proud to premiere its new children’s opera, inspired by George Orwell's classic novella, Animal Farm. The production, featured a specially commissioned score by renowned composer and opera producer Chris de Souza, it was a groundbreaking endeavor that had captivated the Year 5 children with its fresh, imaginative approach to storytelling. 

 

The opera reimagines Orwell’s thought-provoking tale for younger audiences, offering a vibrant exploration of its themes through music and drama.

 

‘This has been such an exciting journey for our students’, said Matt Hartley-Stevens, Head of Music at Dolphin School. ‘We wanted to give our pupils an experience they have never had before, so we decided to create and perform a brand-new opera. It’s a unique opportunity that has pushed them creatively and helped them grow as performers and storytellers. Watching them bring this original work to life has been truly inspiring. Every single child shines on stage.’

 

The opera reimagines Orwell’s powerful allegory for younger audiences, offering a vibrant and accessible retelling of the story’s themes through the children’s perspectives. From tackling the challenging score to interpreting complex characters, the pupils have taken ownership of the production, showcasing the depth of their imagination and hard work.
